Juvia’s Place Nubian 2 Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Let me sum up my mood in a 5 second video – here you go.
Here in Bulgaria we just had our second snowfall of the season, but I’m pretending none of it is happening. I can not accept the fact that three months of cold wet horror are already upon us. Nope. Nope. Nope.

To bring back some much needed warmth into everyones live I have another review – this time of a palette named after the desert I very much would rather be inhabiting right now – the Juvia’s Place Nubian 2 Palette. I got this baby a while ago from the brands website which delivers to Bulgaria (had to pay for customs though – the site ships from the US), but since then Juvia’s Place has landed in Beauty Bay and is even more accessible. I believe this is their second palette ever released and needless to say it’s beautiful. The palette consists of 12 shades with a mix of matte and shimmery finishes. The overall tone is warm with the notable exception of ‘Cleopatra’ which is a gorgeous cool toned true blue shimmer. As the packaging will tell you, the collection was inspired by the African Empire of old Egypt during the reign of Nefertiti. I think it stays very true to the theme – for me the colours look as if they are picked straight from a painting in an old Egyptian palace.

The packaging is cardboard and closes with a magnet. It’s light, but sturdy. There is no mirror, but this has lowered the price, without a doubt, so I don’t mind. Pan size is huge! Each shadow contains 3.75g of product for a total of 45g in the palette. On the brands website ‘Nubian 2’ retails for 25$ (currently on sale for 13.50!), so the price per gram comes down to 0.56$! Juvia’s Place products are manufactured in China, but are cruelty free. The palette has a listed shelf life of 12 months. ‘Nubian 2’ is part of the brands permanent range.

Here is the shade breakdown & swatches:
*All swatches are made over Urban Decay Primer Potion with Zoeva 234 Smoky Shader. Finger swatches are on the left side. The brush was dry. I use Colour Switch sponge between shades.

Marocco – Warm orange matte. I love this orange. It may look slightly patchy and the consistency is a bit hard, but it’s very buildable and easy to blend.
Madagascar – Warm matte brown. Blends perfectly and is super pigmented.
Sheba – Warm taupe shimmer. The shimmer formula of Juvia’s Place is one of my favourites – soft and pigmented, but with zero fallout during application. This shade is no exception.
Yaa – Warm metallic copper. Very buttery and easy to work with.
Jezebel – Reddish berry matte. The only matte in the palette that is a bit drier than it should and a just a little harder to blend (I believe it’s because of the colour). Still the pigmentation is great. It just needs a bit of work.
Zuri – Warm yellow gold shimmer. Great soft highlight especially considering the pan is big enough to fit a face brush. The swatches speak for themselves.
Cleopatra – Cool toned blue shimmer. I love that they included this shade. It works perfectly with the rest of the warm shadows in the palette. Pigmented and easy to work with. Fallout is minimal.
Nefertiti – Warm shimmery orange. Super easy to work with.
Neirobi – True gold shimmer. This one comes of a bit sheer with one swipe, but you can build it up. It applies great!
Leyla –  Warm shimmery plum purple. Again, the pigmentation and consistency of this one are amazing! Just look at the swatches!
Kenya – Warm deep brown. This one has a bit of fallout, but otherwise is very pigmented and blendable.
Egypt – Warm olive green shimmer. I think this is my favourite shade from the palette. It’s like butter and the pigmentation is out of this world!

Juvia’s Place is a black owned makeup brand and I first heard of them through the wonderful Stephanie Nicole on YouTube. They became super well known for their affordable yet super pigmented and vibrant colourful palettes and have since expanded the range with lipsticks, blushes, highlighters & brushes. I can whole heartedly recommend the brand. They are perfect for someone just starting out with makeup and the price/quality ratio they offer is unmatched. Their range has something for everyone – colours and neutrals. As for ‘Nubian 2’ – I love it! The pigmentation is perfect, the shades are easy to work with and you get a loooot of product. I like the colour combination a lot, especially for autumn, and I do think you can create a full eye look with the palette. It’s a 10/10.

What do you think? Have you tried anything from Juvia’s Place yourself? I definitely have a lot more reviews coming.

xoxo, Dessie
